Grady: 3 months

I cannot believe that we have a 3 month old. We love our Grady so much. Every day is a new day with him and seems to result in some new learned behavior.  I have one more month at home with this little guy and I am going to treasure every minute of it - even the moments when I get doused in spit up by a screaming child :).

Three Month Grady Tid Bits:
  • He weighs in at 12.8 pounds on our home scale and appears to finally be bulking up a little bit.
  • People often rub his little fuzzy head and comment on how soft it is.
  • He still LOVES his baths! The kid could sit in there like a soggy raisin for hours if we let him.
  • He cannot yet put things up to his mouth other than his hands, but he loves to suck on a carseat strap, washcloth, Baby Bjorn, or blanket if any happen to get in the vicinity of his mouth.
  • He is starting to get peek-a-boo and other simple games.  Just in the past couple of days, we have been able to get a laugh out of him when ducking down below his changing table, giving zerberts (what my family has always called it when you blow on a baby's belly), or pulling a shirt over his head.
  • Before he laughed at little games, his startle reflex was on high sensitivity and any unexpected action would result in arms flailing above his head, wide eyes, and a scream on about a 5 second delay.
  • He is not the most "talkative" baby I've seen, but in the last week he has really started to coo back at us more when we talk to him.  "Ah-goo" is his word of choice.
  • He sticks his tongue out all.the.time.
  • He can now follow us around a room with his eyes.  He has started to notice Miss Bella too.
  • He goes from happy to screaming without warning in about 3 seconds flat if he gets overtired or overhungry. Staying ahead of those two things is our mission of first priority.  Some days are better than others.
  • He loves being bounced on our exercise ball (at least someone uses it).
  • He is still a rockstar sleeper.  Naps are not his specialty, but since he was six weeks old, he has consistently slept 11-12 hours at night.  Bless his little soul.  Doubt this will last through teething.
  • When he wakes up in the morning he rarely cries to let us know he is awake and instead just starts rolling around and looking around his room with wide eyes and smiles.  Thank goodness for video monitors.
  • When lefty dad puts him down to sleep the "wrong way" he still turns himself 180 degrees in his crib.
  • He shows excitement by breathing in an out through his nose really fast coupled with the occasional snort.  Probably only a mother could think it is adorable, but I do.
And now for his 3 month picture download:

He grew in to his Giants pajamas just in time for the World Series!

This is Grady's other little girlfriend Kennedy.  She is one month older and is the smiliest thing ever.

Seattle Fun

We were blessed to visit Seattle this weekend and be able to spend time with family, celebrate sweet Sophie's 3rd birthday and visit the Kehrlis.  It was a wonderful little trip.

Grady and Cameron share many of the same tastes in clothes and happened to have matchy matchy outfits.  I am trying to make sure to get good cousin pictures whenever we are together. The Whitfield cousins seems to be much more willing participants.

These cousin shots turned out a little better.  I just cannot get enough of watching these three together.

And this one takes the hilarity prize for the weekend.  Are you kidding me, Grady?! Tongue out (he does this A LOT) and crossed eyed.  What a funny little dude.

It was so fun to be able to celebrate Miss Sophie on her actual birthday and at her birthday party the next day.  Sophie is kind, smart as a whip, articulate, funny, and so loving.  She is very gentle with Grady (and all babies) and would talk in a sweet voice, sing, rock his car seat, or put on a show to help make him happy. She is such a sweet girl and we are lucky that she is part of our family. These are pictures of birthday girl herself showing me how old she is,  at her awesome monster party, and helping out with Grady.

We spent an afternoon visiting with the Kehrlis and their sweet little Addison.  We got the tour of their awesome new house and had a great lunch date. Grady did not put on his best show for Addison.  He cried screamed at the top of his lungs for the first half hour of our visit and then tried to put the moves on Addison.

Good thing they can put up with a crying baby so well.  I love these baby swap photos. Addison is just a doll. She just cuddles up on you in a little ball of love. Grady was never a big cuddle bug even in his very first days so I was sure to get all of the cuddles in that I could. Chris, the man once terrified of holding babies, even got his snuggles in.

We got a second chance to do more catching up with the Kehrlis at Sophie's party the next day.  Grady apparently got the message that girls don't like moody men and put on a better face for Addison the second time around, but despite Bob's warning he still tried to put the moves on Addison.

Visits with a baby are a little different than pre-baby days, but there is something so fun about seeing all of our kids together and just hanging out knowing that these kids will have years and years of memories together.  Thanks for all the good times Whitfields and Kehrlis!

Grady made the flights both ways easy by sleeping all the way.  Our fingers are crossed for our next big trip next month, but somehow I feel like our luck is limited and we will be "those people" on our next flight.  He was also good at the birthday party taking a snooze in the Bjorn, total party animal.

Pumpkin Carving Kind of Night

It was a pizza delivery, pumpkin carving, football watching, fall walking, Giants cheering, spiced rum sipping stay at home kind of weekend.  Yeah, it was the kind of weekend and it made me very happy.

The pickings from the pumpkin farm:  A daddy pumpkin, mommy pumpkin (our pumpkin body types may just be a little reversed for the time being, but whatever), a Bella pumpkin and a Grady pumpkin.

I LOVE carving pumpkins.  I am not great at it and never have anything amazing, but for whatever reason I just love it.  Chris is not so much a fan, but always partakes because he loves me.  He did seem to enjoy it a lot more this year while sipping on his hot buttered rum.  I will remember that for next year.

Bella has no problem plucking my small growing pumpkins from my garden and running around the yard with them like toys (notice none of those made it to the carving table), but she was a bit scared by her white pumpkin and would only sit by it for a second when promised a treat.

Grady happily swung while we carved.  I put his pumpkin in with him so he knew that he was still a part of the whole experience.

The fruits of our labor:

To repay Christopher for being such a good sport, we tried a new kind of pumpkin seed this time a la Rachel Ray.  Because he loves anything with cinnamon and sugar, I made cinnamon and sugar seeds.  They were way better than expected.
