The Air Force Thunderbirds flew into town two two weeks ago. I've lived in Boise for 22 years and have never been out to Mountain Home Air Force Base and I knew Grady would love seeing the air show, so we packed up for the afternoon and headed out. We'd explained to Grady that he'd be able to see airplanes and jets and helicopters, but didn't really know what else to expect. Whenever we asked if he wanted to go see the planes, he'd respond, "... and the jets and the helicopters. Grady want to touch a airplane." Well mission complete, the boy got to touch an airplane. He was thrilled.
Aside from the blazing heat, lack of shade and Disneyland equivalent lines, the air show was pretty impressive. To see our military personnel and the aircraft they operate really is awe-inspiring and really made me remember what so many have done and are doing to protect this nation, including Grady's Uncle Andy, currently serving in Afghanistan. We cannot wait to see him when he returns next month!
The moment Grady was waiting for.
Inside the belly of the B-52 bomber, where the bombs usually are.
Sitting in the gunner seat of the UH-1 helicopter.
Flying the UH-1 Helicopter.
We've go a lot of wonderful servicemen in our family and when I left, I had renewed pride and appreciation for what they do. I cannot wait for the day when Grady gets to sit down with his uncle Andy and his Papa and learn what they've done for our country. I know he'll be so proud, just like we are.
